What is the PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT?
The Preliminary SAT 10 (PSAT 10) and the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT) are precursors to the SAT, a college entrance exam. The PSAT is structured similarly to the SAT in terms of timing and content areas of reading, writing and math. All 10th grade students take the PSAT 10 and all 11th grade students take the PSAT/NMSQT during a school day at no cost to students and families. In order for students to be eligible for a National Merit Scholarship, they must take the NMSQT version of the PSAT.
The PSAT 10 and PSAT/NMSQT provide students a composite score that ranges from 320 to 1520, as well as two subtest scores (reading and writing; math) that range from 160-760.
